Portraits

Self Portrait, c. 1939, pastel on paper. Dusti Bongé Art Foundation.

A sampling of early career portraits and self portraits.

Dusti Bongé, like many artists, created a number of striking self portraits. There isn't a more accessible subject matter than the self. And her self portraits are striking.

Although not known for portrait painting, Dusti nonetheless also painted and drew various portraits of other people over the years. Most of her self portraits and other portraits were executed during the early years of her career, but she would revisit the subject matter every so often throughout her career. During her surrealist years she produced several more portrait, and there are even a few abstract portraits from the 1950s.
