Abstract Paintings
Dusti Bongé's abstract expressionist paintings exhibited the quintessential spontaneous and improvisational hallmarks of the movement. Never keen on getting too comfortable with a particular approach or method of painting, Bongé continually challenged herself, moving back and forth between the highly gestural "action painting" method and the more nuanced "color field" method.
Within these different approached, she also worked in a wide array of palettes, never favoring one color over another. There were periods where she pursued mostly darkly hued works alternating with times where her palette was expansive and colorful.
Most of the works, in typical abstract expressionist style, were large scale. However, she did produce a distinct set of smaller paintings known as her "Dream Series." These were works she literally would envision in her dreams and then upon awakening she would immediately put them on canvas.
Many of Dusti's abstract expressionist works were exhibited at the Betty Parsons Gallery over the years.
